Brandon Cowan is an associate with CowanGates on the estate planning, corporate and business law team. His law practice focuses on tax and estate planning, including drafting wills and trusts; probate and estate administration; guardian and conservator matters for the incapacitated; general business law, including corporations, limited liability companies, general and limited partnerships, business succession planning, and asset and stock purchase/sale transactions. In addition, he represents sellers, purchasers, and developers in residential and commercial real estate transactions. Brandon assists his real estate clients with a variety of issues including contract negotiation; construction and permanent financing; drafting, reviewing and negotiating leases, easement agreements, covenants and other real estate development documents.

Brandon graduated from Virginia Tech in 1994 with a Bachelors Degree in English. Following graduation he began a career with the direct selling Tom James Company as a professional clothier in Richmond. Three years later, Brandon created a new territory in the Philadelphia region. For 11 years he was charged with growing Tom James of Philadelphia. His responsibilities ranged from marketing, to direct sales, to management and leadership. With the Tom James Company Brandon gained vast experience working with business executives, business owners, financial advisors and attorneys. Brandon earned numerous sales and leadership awards, including the prestigious President's Club. While maintaining his 14 year career with the Tom James Company, Brandon also attended law school at night. Brandon obtained his J.D. from Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, DE. Brandon was admitted into the Virginia State Bar in 2009.

He is an avid golfer and active supporter of Virginia Tech.
